Usyk and Joshua had a very competitive match, but Usyk controlled the action and scored enough points on the judges scorecards to win by split decision.
Usyk and Joshua fought to a stalemate in the first several rounds, but Usek took the fight from round 6 onwards.
Usyk’s hand speed and combos were too much for Joshua. Joshua managed to work with Usik’s body, but he did not do it consistently enough.
Joshua had a breakthrough in Round 9, but Usyk held off his momentum in Rounds 10-12. The judges returned a single score of 115-113 for Joshua and 116-112 and 115-113 for Usyk, giving him the win by split decision in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Usyk won the titles from Joshua by unanimous decision in 2021 and repeated the performance nearly a year later.
